Create and Manage Projects

A project is where the actual research work happens. Projects belong to an agency, and uses a certain amount of compute resources on one or more infrastructures.

Creating a project

You can create as many projects as you need for your agency — there is no limit on the number of projects you can request.

There are two ways to start a new project:

  • From the Agency page: select the agency in the tree, open the speed-dial menu (the + button) and choose Create Project for a quick project creation.
  • From the navigation bar: Projects → Create Project, which opens the full project form.

The full form asks for:

  • General information: title, description, project scope, start and end dates, the agency the project belongs to, scientific domain/field/sub-field.
  • Management team: the PI and CO-PI, they will not be invited to Lince.
  • Work plan: a description of the project's work packages and steps (for now you can add the description).
  • Resources allocation: the compute resources you are requesting for the project, per infrastructure. Consider that your agency has a limited amount of resources.

Approval process

Once submitted, a project request is reviewed by the Lince staff. This normally takes no more than one working day. Staff can either:

  • Approve the request, or
  • Reject it, with a reason explaining why.

You can follow the status of your requests under Projects → List Projects.

After approval

Once a project is approved, it is automatically created on each of the infrastructures where resources were requested for it. From that point on, you should access and use the project directly on each of those infrastructures — Lince itself is where the project and its resources are managed, not where the computing work is carried out.
