Welcome to Lince
Lince is the CNCA platform that lets users create and manage their agency's research projects and keep track of the compute resource allocations made available to their agency across the CNCA infrastructures.
If you manage an agency in Lince, this documentation walks you through everything you can do in the platform: setting up your agency structure, inviting colleagues, requesting and following up on projects, and distributing the compute hours your agency has been granted.
What you can do in Lince
- Create and manage agencies — organize your institution as a hierarchy of agencies and sub-agencies, and invite colleagues as staff members so they can help manage them.
- Create and manage projects — request as many projects as you need for your agency, follow their approval status, and once approved, start using them on the corresponding infrastructures.
- Manage resources — see the compute-hour allocations your agency has received for each resource, and distribute them across your sub-agencies and projects.
Key concepts
A few terms come up throughout this documentation:
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Agency | An organizational unit in Lince (for example, an institution, a department, or a research group). Agencies can contain smaller agencies. |
| Staff | A user with permission to manage a given agency: create sub-agencies and projects, invite other staff, and distribute its resources. |
| PI / CO-PI | The Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator responsible for a project. |
| Infrastructure | An HPC infrastructure where approved projects are actually created and where the work runs (for example, Deucalion or ?Stratus?). Each infrastructure offers one or more resources. |
| Resource | Computational resource a project can use on a given infrastructure — for example, x86 or GPU compute nodes. Resources are defined and managed by the infrastructures themselves. |
| Allocation | The number of hours of a resource that has been granted to an agency, sub-agency, or project for it to use. |
How this documentation is organized
- Agencies — the recursive agency structure, inviting staff, and creating agencies.
- Projects — creating projects, the approval process, and what happens once a project is accepted.
- Resources — how compute-hour allocations work and how to distribute them.
- Support — how to reach the support team.
